The Tiger Is Heavy

My teacher told me something that surprised me recently.

We were practicing Chi Gong breathing exercises, one of which being inspired by how tiger’s attack its prey.

He mentioned how much the tiger uses its weight as a weapon.

We sometimes forget how heavy tigers are, and they very much use that weight to their advantage.

It sinks its claws into you, then just kind of lays on top of you, letting its weight pin you to the ground.

What surprised me though was when he said that heaviness is Yin energy.

You know, the equal opposite of Yang energy?

I’ve always understood Yang energy to be very strong, linear energy. The moment of impact from a well-formed punch is an expression of yang energy.
